critigeach │ critical

Thug Marcas MA Hons Gàidhlig-Spàinnis agus MLitt Litreachas na h-Èireann is h-Alba à Oilthigh Obar Dheathain, is bho shin a-mach, tha e air a bhith an sàs ann an breithneachadh nua-litreachais o shin a-mach. B' e an tràchdas MLitt aige a rinn sgrùdadh air fearas-feise ann an bàrdachd Chrìsdein MhicIlleBhàin is Chathail Uí Searcaigh agus bidh an sgrùdadh aige a chleachdadh teòirig iar-cholanach is cuèir gus tuigse a bharrachd a thoirt air litreachas na h-Èireann is na h-Alba.

Tha Marcas air a bhith a' sgrìobhadh aistean is artaigilean do dh'irisean air-loidhne mar 'Bella Caledonia' agus 'Dàna' o chionn fhada, a' toirt sùil air ealain, cultar is poilitgs. Bha e an sàs sa sgeama airson Luchd-critig Ùra aig Alba Chruthachail ann an 2020, a thug air blog ùr critigeach - STAING - a stèidheachadh, a ghabhas a-steach breithneachadh is agallamhan sa Ghàidhlig is Bheurla.

Bha Marcas am measg an luchd-deasachaidh a stèidhich 'The Poets' Republic / Poblachd nam Bàrd' - iris bàrdachd a dh'fhoillsicheas dàin ùra sa Bheurla, Bheurla Ghallta, Ghàidhlig is mion-chànanan eile. Tron iris, tha e air cothrom meantoraidh a thoirt do bhàird ùra is òga, a' sireadh an cuid bàrdachd fhaicinn an clò airson a' chiad uarach.

Tha eadar-theangachadh an dà chuid litreachail is corporra agus deasachadh mar phàirt mhòr de dh'obair Mharcais agus, am measg a chuid chliantan tha Pàrlamaid na h-Alba. 'S tric a bhios minstearan a' cluinntinn guth Mharcais ag eadar-mhìneachadh buill Ghàidhealach ann an seòmar Thaigh an Ròid.

Marcas graudated with an MA Hons Gaelic-Hispanic and MLitt Irish and Scottish Literature from the University of Aberdeen and from then on, he has been involved in contemporary literary criticsim. His MLitt thesis investigated themes of homosexuality and -eroticism in the poetry of Christopher Whyte and Cathal Ó Searcaigh and his criticism employs post-colonial and queer theory to enhance understanding of Irish and Scottish literature.

Marcas has written essays and articles for online publications like 'Bella Caledonia' and 'Dàna' for a number of years, with an eye on arts, culture and politics. He benefited from the Creative Scotland-funded New Critics scheme in 2020, which led to the creation of his blog -  STAING - which includes criticism and interviews in Gaelic and English.

Marcas was amongst the founding editors of 'The Poets' Republic / Poblachd nam Bàrd' - a poetry periodical which published new work in English, Scots, Gaelic and other minoritised languages. Through the magazine, marcas has mentored a number of new and emerging poets, seeking to find their poetry in print for the first time.

Translation, both literary and corporate, is a large part of Marcas' work and, amongst his clients is The Scottish Parliament. You can regularly hear Marcas interpreting for Gaelic-speaking ministers in the chamber at Holyrood.
