Marcas has been one of the Gaelic tutors, alongside Dr. Stewart Macleod, of Lothian Gaelic Choir since 2018. Under their tutelage, and that of co-conductors Angus Tully and Jackie Cotter, the choir secured victory with the Lovat and Tullibardine at the 2018 Royal National Mòd in Dunoon. The following year, the choir also managed to supercede their marks in Gaelic in the same competition.
Marcas and Stewart run free Gaelic classes for beginners, intermediates and those approaching fluency in the choir, both online and in-person, with specially designed resources. Their efforts secured them a nomination at the 2019 National Gaelic Awards.
foghlam │ education
Marcas has tutored and lectured in Gaelic for a number of local authorities and education institutions, including East Renfrewshire Council, East Dumbartonshire Council, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, The University of Strathclyde, The University of the West of Scotland, and the University of Edinburgh.
Marcas also has experience of working in Gaelic-medium Education in both Glasgow and Inverness, which he has used to train primary school teachers in GLPS, often alongside well known tutor Jackie Mullen. Marcas and Jackie bring their shared love of music to their GLPS training so those taking part can't help but come away with a song.
The bond between language and music continues, with Marcas now working on a freelance basis with An Comunn Gàidhealach - delivering courses for beginners, post-beginners, and lower and upper intermidates, seeking to test for a bronze and silver card. He has delivered two six-week blocks and a twelve-week block with ACG, with the potential for more classes to be offered, so do get in touch if you are a member with particular interest in developing your conversational skills, with a little bit of grammar thrown in.
